Show HN: Socket web extension – free NPM supply chain protection Hey HN, I'm Arjun, an 18-year-old intern at Socket. I've been working on a project that I'm really excited to share with you all - a browser extension that makes it easier to check the security of NPM packages before you use them. You can try the extension on any Chromium-based browser or on Firefox. - Chrome extension: < https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/socket-security/jb... > - Firefox add-on: < https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/socket-securi... > Socket scans NPM packages for malware, vulnerabilities, code smell, and unwanted behavior using AI and some very powerful in-house static analysis we've been perfecting over the last 2 years. As the primary developer of Parcel.js' web extension transformer (< https://parceljs.org/recipes/web-extension/ >), I thought it would be cool to use my own work on Parcel to create a useful extension during my internship at Sock

Show HN: A Girl Next Door Does Not Exist (NSFW) Warning: NSFW. I'm posting this from a throwaway. Note that on HN favorites are public, but upvotes are private. Porn seems like it'll be one of the big areas of ai in the short term. There've been multiple threads and comments about AI + Onlyfans and AI + porn and AI girlfriends on HN recently ( https://ift.tt/Av6MOjr , https://ift.tt/ThLOtY1 , https://ift.tt/jYG7wsS ). I've heard that porn is the industry that pushes new technology forward - VHS, bluray, highly scalable video serving. I made a site compiling together some of the AI porn that I made with the help of some people on Discord over the past few months. I don't think AI will get rid of onlyfans. People spend on onlyfans for more than just the images. I do think people will have access to unlimited image and video porn at some point in the coming decade, which will definitely change the porn industry. The site shows what's possible with AI porn today - i

Show HN: Openexus – Building blocks for the internet Hi HN! We are thrilled to share a sneak peek of https://openexus.com after months of work. You can try out the cool demos on the front page! The idea is to build a platform and community for composable building blocks where anyone can easily create, find and connect different modules to create dynamic and interactive apps, sites, dashboards, and docs. This can be done without using a single line of code. Key principles of what we are building: 1) True composability that enables infinite possibilities — Modules today are either too complex to be used only by developers (e.g. NPM packages) or too simplistic where they are usually used as an embed in isolation. We are establishing a modularization foundation that is powerful enough for developers to express functionalities, simple enough for anyone (even kids) to use, and flexible enough to build sophisticated creations. 2) Smart connect without code — All logic can be clearly expressed

Show HN: Turing RK1 – 32GB RAM and AI Accelerator A year ago, we launched the Turing Pi2, a 4-node cluster computer with a unique modular and heterogeneous architecture. Despite the excitement, we faced a significant challenge: a shortage of supported Single Board Computers (SBCs), including the Raspberry Pi CM4 and NVIDIA Jetson modules. In response, we made a promise to our community to deliver our own compute module, aiming to address the shortage and push the boundaries of what compute modules can achieve. Today, we're thrilled to fulfill that promise with the introduction of the Turing RK1 Compute Module. The Turing RK1, a result of a year's worth of dedication and innovation, features 8 ARM CPU cores, up to 32 GB RAM, and a 6 TOPS AI accelerator. It's built on the RK3588 SoC and uses a 260-pin SODIMM form factor. Full specs here: https://ift.tt/4BZFYMp Importantly, it's pin-compatible with NVIDIA Jetson and our Turing Pi2 cluster board. Show HN: Sshield, a secure(r) SSH agent written in Rust sshield is a drop-in SSH agent replacement written in Rust which stores keys in an encrypted SQLite database instead of in ~/.ssh. I opted to use russh, which is a Rust implementation of the SSH protocol and ssh-agent for greater memory safety. It allows importing settings and keys from OpenSSH as well as creating, updating, showing and deleting keys. Whenever a program requests using the key for signing, a prompt is displayed to the user for confirmation. This way: 1. Your keys don't get leaked (unless the server process' memory is dumped, but that requires root on *nix systems) 2. Your keys don't get misused and inadvertedly sign something malicious. It is still a work in progress, but I've been able to switch with fairly minor inconveniences that are just the result of not having it globally installed. The repo will soon have a Nix overlay or package output with all the right settings enabled for daily productio

Show HN: Rubbrband – Evaluating generated images at scale Hey HN! We’re the founders of Rubbrband ( https://ift.tt/hsZtuo7 ), a evaluation platform for image generation models like Stable Diffusion. We provide a monitoring application to detect deformed human features in AI generated images at scale. For example, we automatically flag images of people with deformed eyes or hands. We’ve worked with several companies leveraging generative image models in production, and found that one of the main problems is that it’s hard to filter images for good quality sample at scale. Typically, teams will have to manually look through the images for these samples, which is slow and expensive. We wanted to build a monitoring solution that lets you to see all of the images you’ve generated, and to automatically be alerted when an image was generated with a deformity. We’ve started by building evaluators that detects deformities in human features, like face and hands. We’re focused on expanding rapidl

Show HN: Wall of Gratitude – a place where we can share gratitude in public Gratitude deserves to be seen. Each of us can point to individuals who've impacted our lives in significant ways. Perhaps it was a mentor who guided us, a friend who stood by us during challenging times, or a family member whose love was unwavering and unconditional. However, they don't get to hear our appreciations, especially in public. In many organizations, we've embraced the practice of expressing gratitude to our colleagues through karma points, kudos, or similar recognition. While these gestures are valuable, they often happen behind closed doors. Therefore I made this little website so that we can share our gratitude in public and inspire others to do the same. https://ift.tt/oYqc5D0 July 28, 2023 at 03:29AM

Subset is a spreadsheet on an infinite canvas where you can drop in spreadsheet building blocks and connect them together to easily build good looking analytical tools. My cofounder and I both worked in finance before this. We quit our jobs and learned to code to build the spreadsheet we always wanted. We got frustrated with how much time was wasted recreating the same thing from scratch or trying to extract something reusable from a previous spreadsheet. We wanted a spreadsheet with more composability and a community of building blocks to work off of. Why infinite canvas? Reusability is not really a first class concept in a traditional endless spreadsheet grid [1]. A canvas felt more intuitive. You can communicate data flow, better understand inputs/outputs, and quickly make data presentable. Subset is browser based and real-time multiplayer. It is free t

Show HN: Rust library for set operations on CIDRs, you can try it in a terminal I had a work objective that required me to be able to "slice" a subnet by a smaller subnet and I didn't manage to find any other libraries that accomplish this kind of computation so I set out to write one myself. Supports calculating CIDR unions, differences, and complements. The rest of the existing set operations don't really make sense for CIDRs since the only way they can overlap is if one fully contains the other (or they are equivalent). I figured a binary tree-like data structure would be the most memory efficient way to represent this, but I'm super open to any feedback especially if there's a well established better way to do this. Play with it on the command line if you have rust installed: `cargo install fcidr`! https://ift.tt/U1vjmLy July 27, 2023 at 12:32AM

Show HN: Sequin – Use Postgres/SQL to read from and write to APIs Hi HN community, I'm Anthony, co-founder of Sequin (sequin.io), and am excited to show you what we've been working on. Sequin lets you skip HTTP APIs and integrate with Postgres and SQL instead. While we originally launched with a one-way sync from APIs to Postgres, as of today, you can now _write back_ to APIs using `insert`, `update`, and `delete` on your synced tables. We built Sequin because no one is happy with HTTP APIs today. For developers that need to build on top of third-party APIs, each integration is bespoke. There are few standards. I've personally seen over a dozen different OAuth 2.0 implementations, every JSON response format imaginably, and countless strategies for pagination. On top of that, poor throughput and/or rate limits mean every integration I've worked on has needed to cache or sync data. The platforms that provide HTTP APIs for consumers are equally unhappy. There are few stand

Nothing else merges/splices styles into a usable snippet that stays true to the original design. After getting the extension working well enough to collect snippets, I took it a lot further. I added features to scope the CSS, templatize repeating items, inject lorem ipsum data, and then convert snippets to React/Vue with ChatGPT. I'm even building a template directory of snippets based on the designs I've collected from random websites. Making a universal tool to componentize anything on a web is a big project so it took me a couple years to get here. During that time I've gotten very little feedba

I woke up yesterday with an idea in mind for a MAD Fold-In[1]. A MAD Fold-In is a piece of artwork on the inside-back cover of each issue of "MAD Magazine". The main image can be folded to reveal a hidden, secondary image. I wanted to share my interactive picture with others, but printing a fold-in and mailing it to friends with instructions seemed really hard, so I searched for a digital way to do it. I found a blog post[2] from Thomas Park where he already did 100% of the work necessary to make a MAD Fold-In using nothing but CSS and HTML and a normal PNG image. Using Inkscape and some Creative Commons images, I drafted a rough piece of artwork and tweaked it until the CSS folded it nicely. I wouldn't normally share here, but I thin

Show HN: TLA+ AutoRepair (with GPT-4) to fix formal specs and understand them TLA+ is a language for formal specification. It can be used to formally verify algorithms and mathematical theorems. Companies like AWS use it for verifying mission-critical parts of systems like S3. The challenge is that TLA+ and formal specifications have a steep learning curve. This tool can aid in overcoming this obstacle at the outset. TLA+ AutoRepair is used to repair/self-heal formal specifications with GPT-4 in a loop, with or without human intervention. Given a TLA+ specification (.tla file) and a model to check (.cfg), the application will go through each error, send it to GPT-4 (or specified model), and fix all errors. Show HN: Scaffolder, CLI tool to generate project structure, taken from YAML Scaffolder is a CLI tool written in Golang to instantly generate skeleton project structure with boilerplate code, that's taken from configurable YAML file, to quickly kick-start your project I was tired of manually creating the project structure, with all those folder, files... So I decided to create a CLI tool that allows you to instantly generate skeleton projects, based on a reusable YAML file with boilerplate code if specified. YAML is very easy for both humans and programs to work with and parse, hence why it's the most logical choice in context of Scaffolder. Check out the GitHub page for detailed description and examples :) https://ift.tt/uFUyEev July 23, 2023 at 02:48PM

Show HN: Chitchat, an easy-to-use, cross-platform, chat-based LLM interface Just finished the first draft of my weekend project. Sadly my industry is far away from all the exciting machine learning developments happening right now, so I wrote this project as my first exploration into the world of LLMs. It's not perfect, but I'm excited to see where the project goes from here! https://ift.tt/xTeUCou My main motivations were: - Easy-of-use: Many models are supported out-of-the-box so users don't have to figure out how to download, where to save, etc. - Intuitive: A clean interface - Cross platform: The project is written in Rust and cross-compiled to other platforms. You don't have to have Python or the C++ toolchain installed to use. - Chat-based experience: Model sessions are persisted so the model is contextually aware of your conversation. https://ift.tt/eSLgXBR July 22, 2023 at 11:36PM

Show HN: ETscript – An experimental interpreter for Salesforce's AMPscript I wanted to take a break from JavaScript and learn a lower-level language. I've always been into musical instruments, so I thought I'd be knee-deep in C++ and building VST plugins by now. But for whatever reason, I ended up going through Robert Nystrom's excellent book, Crafting Interpreters instead. Things started out fine, but I had trouble staying focused since I was just copy-pasting code from the book. Forcing myself to type everything out made things worse. To give myself a challenge, I switched things up by using languages not used by the book. For the tree-walking interpreter, I used Python instead of Java; for the bytecode interpreter, it was Rust instead of C. Doing that made a difference. I didn't stop there, though. Instead of implementing clox (the main subject in the book's second half), I implemented a subset of AMPscript — a DSL I had used back when I worked at ExactTarget

Show HN: RAGstack – private ChatGPT for enterprise VPCs, built with Llama 2 Hey hacker news, We’re the cofounders at Psychic.dev ( http://psychic.dev ) where we help companies connect LLMs to private data. With the launch of Llama 2, we think it’s finally viable to self-host an internal application that’s on-par with ChatGPT, so we did exactly that and made it an open source project. We also included a vector DB and API server so you can upload files and connect Llama 2 to your own data. The RAG in RAGstack stands for Retrieval Augmented Generation, a technique where the capabilities of a large language model (LLM) are augmented by retrieving information from other systems and inserting them into the LLM’s context window via a prompt. This gives LLMs information beyond what was provided in their training data, which is necessary for almost every enterprise application. Examples include data from current web pages, data from SaaS apps like Confluence or Salesforce, and data from documen

Show HN: PikaTorrent, a modern, multi-platform, open source BitTorrent app I find existing BitTorrent clients offer a rather old user interface, and it's hard to set up remote access, involving setting up a web server, a TLS certificate, domain name, configuring the router, etc... PikaTorrent tries to offer a modern and easy UI. It is available on desktop (Linux & Windows for now), mobile (Android for now), as CLI as an npm package, and even on the web (as a frontend for remote control). Thanks to WebRTC, one can link the mobile or web app with the desktop or CLI app. This way, it's possible to remotely manage torrents securely and without any complicated setup. From a technical point of view, the app is using Expo and Tamagui to target the web, desktop, and mobile (native), meanwhile libtransmission is used as the torrent engine. So we should expect the same level of performance as the Transmission client. PikaTorrent is open source, and I just released v0.3.0 to let poten

Show HN: Stemformulas.com During my (ongoing) engineering degree, I've often looked up formulas and been frustrated at the lack of reliable results. Some formulas (usually the easy ones) get their own blurb on Google results, while others are a few clicks away, or are most easily accessed by looking at random university slides on Google images. It felt like, in this day and age, there should be a site that serves the small but noble purpose of being a source of truth for formulas, while leveraging modern website technology to provide a fast and user-friendly experience. So, I made stemformulas.com (with some friends)! It's a really simple website, basically just collection of formulas with a search bar. The formulas are displayed in LaTeX, they're double checked by me against sources that I link for further reading, and I write out all the variable definitions for each one. A feature I recently added was the ability to copy the LaTeX on any formula page (e.g. go to https://

The Slow but Steady Transformation of Page Street

The Slow but Steady Transformation of Page Street By Michael Delia The transformation of Page Street from a congested to calm thoroughfare continues with the goal of making it safer for everyone.  The Slow Streets Program and other infrastructure upgrades are breathing new life into Page Street, creating a vibrant route connecting the Haight/Ashbury, Lower Haight and Hayes Valley neighborhoods. Widened sidewalks, a significant reduction in traffic and colorful, community-built street artwork have made Page a place where people want to walk, bike and live.  The tree-lined west end of Page Street serves as a gateway to Golden Gate Park. To the east, there have been numerous changes to the approach to Octavia Boulevard that are being welcomed by those who live in the area. There are now new sidewalk extensions and stormwater rain gardens at three locations near Octavia – including a decorative, traffic-calmed intersection at Page and Buchanan Streets.  Once a popular cut-through for

We’re building a tool measuring software performance before any production deployment, catching performance regressions before they hit production environments and reporting performance changes directly in Pull Request comments. It’s kind of like Codecov but for performance measurement. Today, the go to solution to measure performance is probably to use an APM(DataDog, Sentry, …), continuously analyzing your production environment. However, since those solutions are operating on real environments they need real users to experience poor performance in order to report issues and unfortunately, performance remains an afterthought appearing only at the end of the development cycle. Another possibility to measure performance is to create benchmarks while developing and to run them on a regular basis to have an idea of the performance trend of your project. However, with this approach, the va

Optional: Contribute missing barcodes It's a super simple app currently, but I think it has potential to provide more insights into the food we purchase every week (viewing grocery trends over time may be useful). Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated! https://ift.tt/qMHE9am https://ift.tt/qMHE9am July 13, 2023 at 06:17AM

Show HN: A GPT4 Agent that build and use financial models for planning purpose I built this GPT4 Agent that can construct a financial model and use it as an external tool for answering broad range of financial planning questions. It is better than asking the same question on Reddit personal finance forums. Show HN: Face Stickers, Fun and Festive Gifts and Memorabilia Hi Hn, We thought it would be fun to do something a little different with image background removal, and focus on people & pets' faces. This part of our site lets you quickly create a face-only cutout, that can then be used to create all sorts of fun crafting projects (think collages and such). They also make for great gifts and memorabilia with custom printed mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc. We've partnered with Zazzle for quick product creation in this initial release. If they give you too much trouble you can always download the raw result image and do whatever you like with it. Would love to get your feedback, thanks! Show HN: A News Website Generated by AI Research in English is a website devoted to distilling research into a more readable form while at the same time enabling our audience to dig deeper and learn. Our goal is to increase the publicity of research and improve citizen access to science. We always link to the original paper for users who want to learn more. I've been working on this site for the past couple months and have 10k+ papers in my database but want to get approved for Google Ads before I really go crazy generating articles. https://ift.tt/whvjaHt July 11, 2023 at 04:25AM

Show HN: macOS tool for tracking internet disconnections on a calendar heatmap Hey everyone, I want to share a tool, UptimeLog, that helps track internet connections and identify patterns of disconnections and durations, all presented on a calendar heatmap (which I find to be a cool way to visualize different patterns and more). Originally, it started as a quick hack for Linux, allowing me to analyze patterns of periodic internet disconnections over time. However, I have since ported it to macOS, enabling cross-platform compatibility via making the monitoring dashboard accessible through a web page locally. https://uptimelog.app July 11, 2023 at 02:25AM

Show HN: An index of all monthly dividend stocks https://ift.tt/ziJRtC6

Show HN: An index of all monthly dividend stocks In my quest for finding high yield dividend stocks, I've noticed there isn't really a good tool for finding such stocks (that I can find, anyway), only pay-walled sites that are confusing and inaccessible. This little project seeks to remedy that. I'm sharing this in the hopes that you'll find it useful, but also to get feedback, in particular, about monetizing. While I built this to be useful, I would like to make some money on it, so if you have any recommendations, I'm all eyeballs. I fear I may have to resort to advertisements to keep the barrier to entry low. https://ift.tt/rU50MZt July 9, 2023 at 08:31AM
