Show HN: Noop Workshop, Develop with Local/Cloud Parity Hello HN, Milin @Noop.dev[1] here! We're very excited to share Noop Workshop with you! For the past several months we have been preparing to launch the Noop Developer Platform. The platform handles all aspects of running and operating your software. Until a few months ago, our focus was on hosting and running software in the Cloud. But we realized there's a growing need for local development tools that can help make the transition from local development to cloud hosting easier. And so, Workshop was born. We felt existing tools were either too specialized or too disconnected from the specific constraints and complexities of cloud hosting. Noop Workshop aims to solve this problem by defining an Application in one unified format that works in both local and cloud environments. It’s possible to use Noop Workshop even if Noop Cloud is not your target deployment. The Noop Application config, called a Blueprint, will be familiar to developers that have experience using popular container orchestration tools. However, Blueprints are a higher-level abstraction, and more Application concepts can be defined with less code. Once you're up and running, Noop provides a suite of tools for analyzing logs, interacting with running containers, routing traffic (all HTTPS) and automatically detecting code changes. In addition to technical advantages, our license has no commercial use restrictions — we intend to keep it that way. We want to eliminate the operational overhead of software. Workshop along with Cloud is the foundation on which we plan to achieve that goal. Our Cloud platform is available by invitation. Show HN: Interactive exercises for GNU grep, sed and awk Hello! For the past few months, I've been using a Python framework called Textual to create TUI apps for interactive exercises. Released the app for GNU awk earlier today, so thought I'd create a post here. If you already know how to manage Python packages, you can use the following command to get all the three apps: pip install grepexercises sedexercises awkexercises `pipx` should also work, but I haven't tested it. The GitHub repo has the source code as well as more detailed installation instructions. You can use alternative CLI tools to solve these exercises as well. For example, Perl instead of GNU awk or ripgrep instead of GNU grep and so on. Hope you find these TUI apps useful. I'd highly appreciate your feedback. I've worked in this space since the very early days (think SSLv2), always frustrated with the fact that the field is vast but the documentation poor. That first led me to create SSL Labs (which ended up being very popular) and then the first edition of my book (in 2014), where I aimed to cover everything a curious person needed to know about SSL/TLS and PKI. Most importantly, it's a very practical book that you can use to just learn what you need at that moment. The second edition (just out) adds coverage of TLS 1.3. I publish two chapters as a separate (and free) OpenSSL Cookbook. There's another free sample chapter as well. The best part of Bulletproof TLS and PKI is that it's a living book.
